If you did a search for Schroth Method Brooklyn, you are searching for one of the best scoliosis treatment strategies available and we can help. Elena Vaynshtok MSPT, DPT, CKPT is certified physical therapist (C1 level) in the Schroth Method through the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School created by Dr. Manual Rigo.
Schroth Method is a conservative (non-surgical) treatment method for scoliosis, kyphosis and other postural related issues in adolescents and adults of all ages.
Scoliosis is an instability disorder with collapses and contractures. It is defined by Scoliosis Research Society (SRS) radiographically as a lateral curvature of the spine equal to or greater than 10 degrees with rotation of unknown cause.
The use of the method usually begins during adolescence with people with idiopathic scoliosis or kyphosis and a Cobb angle greater than 15 degrees. The Scoliosis specific exercises are based on the original works of Katharina Schroth in 1920, and research was further developed and taught by the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) by Dr. Manual Rigo.
BSPTS is a recognized method of treatment for scoliosis by the international group, Society of Scoliosis Orthopedic Rehabilitation Treatment (SOSORT).
Scoliosis Expert Treatment Here In Brooklyn
Schroth-BSPTS is an active therapeutic exercise which involves cognitive, sensory-motor and kinesthetic training and it is used to teach the patient to improve his/her posture based on the assumption that scoliosis posture promotes curve progression.
Your session will be performed by a Schroth Certified (C1) BSPTS Physical Therapist. This treatment is a 3-Dimensional treatment approach that incorporates self-elongation and improvement of scoliosis curves. Schroth Method focuses on chest expansion with breathing and neuromuscular retraining/stabilization of the corrected 3-D posture. You will learn to use 3-D postural "proper" alignment and muscle activation to open collapsed areas. Treatment sessions encourage the strengthening of overstretched, weak muscles of the curves (convexities) and stretching of the short muscles and fascia of the curves (concavities).
Treatment is customized to each individual patient. A thorough evaluation and review of X-ray imaging will be performed and an individualized exercise program will be developed to improve postural components of the curve, reduce any asymmetries and decrease the progression cycle.
Schroth exercises have been shown to have a positive effect on decreasing the progression of curves, improving posture, improving lung and organ function and decreasing pain.
Our ultimate goal would be to integrate this optimal alignment of the 3-D posture that you have learned into your activities of daily living.
"Progress is impossible without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything."
